ONE OF A KIND SUMMER SPORTS CLASSIC LAUNCHED
3 sports, 500 athletes to compete in San Diego's premier sporting event
SAN DIEGO, CA- Sports group announces a first of its kind sporting event in San Diego,
California with the launch of the annual Summer Sports Classic. The event will feature
approximately 500 athletes competing in 3 individual sports over the weekend of June 20-22,
2008 and any proceeds will go to charity.
"Athletes can compete in Golf, Tennis and Softball over the weekend with net proceeds to a
San Diego grassroots charity called PAWS," stated Stacey Hayashi, Event Director of the
Summer Sports Classic.
While the event is open to anyone and any team, Hayashi expects the entries in the various
sports competitions to be a mix with many members of the GLBT community.
"This event has been created to further support GLBT sports and at the same time, be able
to give back to our own community," continued Hayashi.
The Summer Sports Classic (www.summersportsclassic.com) will combine a softball tournament
in Escondido, a tennis tournament at Balboa Park Tennis Club and a golf tournament in
Carlsbad at the new Crossings course over the weekend of June 21-22, 2008.
Because the Summer Sports Classic is committed to providing the best sporting experience
possible, for the first year, they have decided to limit the field of play in each sport
offered at the tournament, creating an efficient use of time and energy on behalf of organizers
and athletes alike. Softball will be limited to the first 20 teams. Golf and Tennis will be
limited to the first 100 entries.
Though entries will be limited, Hayashi expects nearly 500 athletes to compete in the sport
of their choice during the inaugural weekend of the Summer Sports Classic and expects next
year's event to host many more participants.
Summer Sports Classic is presented by Hawthorn's Restaurant Lounge and a number of sponsors
including Coors, RAGE Magazine, Here! and Interactive Male. For a complete listing of
